Equipment grounding is an essential part of protecting staff and equipment from high
potential caused by electrical faults. Equipment grounding conductors are subject to
failure due to corrosion, loose connections, and mechanical damage. Grounding may
also be compromised during equipment addition and removal or other construction-
type activities. Periodically verifying grounding system integrity is an important
maintenance activity.

Meters indicate, and sometimes record, electrical and mechanical quantities for
operator information. Some meters also transmit stored data to Supervisory Control
and Data Acquisition (SCADA) or other systems. Accuracy of meter indication is
important to ensure correct power and water systems operation.
